Bridge in a Box: MAADI’s Rapid-Deploy Modular Aluminum Bridge

In response to the growing need for fast and efficient infrastructure after natural disasters, MAADI Group has developed the Light Vehicle Tactical Bridge (LVTB)—a revolutionary, lightweight aluminum structure designed for rapid deployment. Also known as the “Bridge in a Box,” this modular system fits entirely within a standard shipping container, enabling transport by truck, train, or even helicopter, and can be assembled by a crew of ten—without heavy machinery.

The LVTB is engineered primarily from custom aluminum extrusions combined with cast and machined components. Aluminum military grade was selected for its exceptional extrudability, strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and its ability to withstand extreme environments—from arctic cold to desert heat. Unlike steel, aluminum retains ductility at low temperatures and resists corrosion without requiring protective paint, making it ideal for long-term outdoor storage—even near saltwater.

Lightweight and Weld-Free Design

Weighing just 4,800 kg (10,500 lbs), the bridge is light enough for airlift by a Chinook helicopter. When packed with all components and tools, the full system remains under 9,100 kg, a third of which is the container itself. Despite its lightweight nature, the bridge supports up to 21,000 kg of pedestrian and light vehicle loads, thanks to optimized structural members and extruded profiles in 6005A-T61 and 6061-T6 alloys.

A key innovation lies in the bridge’s weld-free design. Major components are assembled using interlocking joints and high-strength fasteners, minimizing fatigue and simplifying the process. The system is protected by several U.S. patents: US-11035086-B2, US-8590084-B2, and US-20190276995-A1. Only 28 bolts are required to secure the entire 80-ft (24 m) span. Additionally, the decking system, made of 80 interlocking planks, can be installed in under few minutes using a proprietary rail-and-groove mechanism.

Designed for disaster relief, military operations, and remote site access, the LVTB’s intelligent packaging, robust durability, and rapid assembly make it an ideal solution for critical response needs.

With the LVTB, MAADI Group redefines the potential of aluminum in infrastructure: strong, sustainable, fast, and future-ready.
